Vibration Program Scorecard

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

- One new scorecard, similar to the Reliability Scorecard (qv), is under development by John (Mitchell), based on another person’s material, and Vibra-K participates. We intend to post it as a Wiki, seeking comments and or other participants. You can leave a comment on this post / thread and register as a user to get on the bandwagon. Will post back to Maintenance Forum when this thing finally goes up…

This will address program management issues, and not technical issues per say.

Coming Attractions

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Well, sooner or later we’ll need to get a few annoying dollar making schemes up on this site, such as one of the two books the principal is (interminably) working on and modular extracts from various courses, as well as something tawdry to eventually generate ad revenue from products we like.

This being said, the current writing projects underway are:

- One new scorecard, similar to the Reliability Scorecard (qv), is under development by John (Mitchell), based on another person’s material, and Vibra-K participates. At the very least, we’ll point to the publishing site when it is finalized and ready. News Flash: we may in fact go Wiki on that, seeking other participants. You can leave a comment on this post / thread and register as a user to get on the bandwagon.

- A FINAL Acoustic Emissions / Acceleration Enveloping / Spike Energy / PeakVue FAQ paper… The one presented at CMVA is exhaustive and does cover mechanisms at length, but some people may find it exhausting… Using a similar function PROPERLY in a pertinent fashion can make or break a program in some cases, or help / hinder in others. When done right, it is REALLY useful!

Spike Energy is a trademark of RA Entek / PeakVue is a trademark of CSI / Shock Pulse Method is a trademark of SPM Instrument Inc.

- A Tale of a Reliability Audit Gone Awry, lessons in the underlying reasons why some processes fail (FG says “I was there, but it wasn’t us!”)

- Probably an old (basic but hopefully useful) section on balancing in the (soon to appear) Spanish section

- An allegorical or metaphorical look at Predictive Methods (with some reviwing help and suggestions from old friends, and others who will likely say they knew that sooner or later, FG would end up speaking in parables)

- A protocol for research concerning rolling-element bearings; this seeks to eliminate the too often seen “Here’s something new” typically coupled with “See? It actually works!”, but left without the necessary comparatives and based on a one-shot laboratory (read “ideal conditions”) test

- A whole series of vibration articles are in development (and may have been forever): the accumulated files of the Fibber McGee “hard drive” (a closet no longer cuts it)…

- Case histories and extracts will also appear; feel free to contribute… And you can count on our help to “dress it up”.
